Middle East Reformed Fellowship (MERF) is an evangelical Christian missions organization which serves in the Middle East, North Africa and Asia on behalf of the Reformed and Presbyterian family of churches and believers worldwide. The vision of three young people in Beirut, Lebanon in the early 1970s is now bearing fruit for the Kingdom of Christ among the twenty-two nations of the Arab League and other Muslim areas in Africa and Asia. MERF strengthens national churches with ministries of evangelism, church extension, biblical training, and diaconal aid—to "declare the whole counsel of God" in accord with the historic Reformed confessions. Click on an article below to learn more.

Policies of MERF

Involvement:

MERF, being a Christian, non-profit and non-political, charitable organization, must remain clear of any involvements that would tarnish its reputation, hinder its ministries or violate its commitments. This means that particular care must be taken to avoid any political overtones in the activities or the ministries of the Fellowship.

John Calvin Center

The John Calvin Center, An Evangelical Study Center and Research Library

"I am the Bread of life... the Light of the world... the Door of the sheep... the Good Shepherd... the Resurrection and the Life..."

In both English and the original Greek, the stained glass windows of Trinity Chapel at John Calvin Center in Larnaca, Cyprus, silently call out Jesus' words from the Gospel of John to passersby on this Greek and English-speaking Mediterranean island. It is not unusual to see those walking on the street peering at them, deep in thought. But this is only a foretaste of the rich grace to all who respond to the warm welcome at the International Evangelical Church which worships inside, a blended congregation of locals and foreigners.

In order to serve the churches effectively, MERF has established the John Calvin Center for training and study in Cyprus. Research facilities are available for pastors and others to strengthen their scriptural and theological knowledge in a practical way through structured or independent study to equip them for effective ministries. This includes a growing library of literature and audiovisual materials on a wide range of topics.

Additional study centers have been established in Beirut, Cairo, Lokichoggio, Jakarta and Makassar.

History of MERF

The Church in the Middle East

The Evangelical churches in the Middle East were largely established by Reformed missionaries. However, in recent decades they have been influenced by different unbiblical trends, superficiality and dead spirituality. Moreover, those of the Reformed persuasion in the region lack active fellowship and cooperation with like-minded Christians elsewhere. They need encouragement from Reformed churches and believers worldwide. MERF was formed to link together the gifts of the national believers with the vision and support of the Bible-believing Reformed communities worldwide.

Fruitful for Christ's Kingdom

Strengthened and encouraged by your prayerful support, the church in Muslim lands is growing. Hard work over the years has birthed effective ministries which are bringing Christ to the Middle East and beyond. We thank God for your partnership in building Christ's Kingdom in Muslim lands.

MERF embraces Christ's vision of being fruitful for His Kingdom.

You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden.  Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven (Matthew 5:14-16).

Because of the involvement and giving of Reformed believers and churches worldwide, MERF is having a powerful impact throughout the Middle East, North Africa, and Asia as Christ uses us to encourage and strengthen His church. Non-Christians are responding to the message of the Gospel of grace. They are being discipled by national Christians. And those in need are being helped in spiritual and material ways.
